Job Summary

This role is a critical Technical Specialist position within the Interfaculty Biomedical Research Facility (IBF) at Heidelberg University, focusing on the management and coordination of animal breeding programs, particularly involving genetically modified rodents. The successful candidate will be responsible for steering and optimizing mouse stocks, conceptually developing and maintaining specialized animal husbandry database systems (Tierbase, MoVi), and ensuring robust data quality. Key daily tasks include generating analytical reports, leading technical training sessions for staff and researchers, and serving as the primary coordinator between animal husbandry, research groups, and administration. This position requires a biomedical background (BTA, MTA, or equivalent), profound knowledge of laboratory animal management and breeding techniques, strong organizational and leadership skills, and an affinity for data management systems. It offers the opportunity to work in a highly innovative, multidisciplinary scientific environment, providing strategic technical consultation to leading research teams.

Completed vocational training/professional qualification in the biomedical field (e.g., Biomedical Technical Assistant, Medical Technical Assistant, Laboratory Technician) or comparable qualification

Experience

  • Fundamental knowledge in animal breeding and laboratory animal management
  • Organizational and leadership competence
  • Professional experience working with scientists and multidisciplinary teams
