Postdoctoral Researcher in Scientific Software Development and Statistical Methods | Postdoctoral position (f/m/d)
Max-Planck-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Wissenschaft e.V Max-Planck-Institut für Physik
Job Summary
This Postdoctoral position at the Max Planck Institute for Physics (MPP) focuses on developing cutting-edge scientific software and advanced statistical methods within the DEMOS and BAT.jl projects. The successful candidate will play a major role in implementing the HEP Statistics Serialization Standard (HS3) in Julia, contributing to its evolution, and developing portable, interoperable machine-learning models. Key responsibilities include leading the definition and reference implementation of "Models as a Service" (MaaS) in Julia and applying these technologies to real physics use cases, such as Belle II and LEGEND experiments. This role requires a strong background in software development, an interest in Bayesian inference, and the willingness to dive deeply into the Julia programming language, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to fundamental research in particle and astroparticle physics.
Required Skills
Education
PhD in physics, computer science, statistics, or a related field
Experience
- PhD in physics, computer science, statistics, or a related field
- Solid software development skills, ideally in more than one programming language
- Understanding of physics and the relationship of experiments to mathematical/statistical models (if primary training is not physics)
- Experience contributing to research in Bayesian inference and its application to physics
Languages
Additional
- Contract initially limited to 2 years with possibility of extension; Must be willing to dive deeply into the Julia programming language.
