Job Summary

This Research Associate position at the University of Rostock focuses on advancing FAIR (Meta)data Management within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Marine Technology. The successful candidate will drive research into ontology-based data integration, implementing and managing robust protocols for electronic lab books, particularly concerning imaging and image processing. Key day-to-day tasks include developing user interfaces for SHACL-based documents, modeling data in both relational (SQL) and graph (RDF) databases, and maintaining essential data pipelines and integration services. A crucial part of the role involves documenting processes, publishing project results, and actively contributing to securing future funding by drafting grant proposals (DFG, BMBF/EU). Candidates must possess a strong academic background (Master’s or equivalent) in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field, coupled with excellent programming skills (e.g., Python, JavaScript) and experience in API design and microservices development.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree (or equivalent Diploma) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a comparable field, achieved with at least a good result.

Experience

  • Professional experience in ontology-based research and data integration
  • Good practical experience in the design and development of APIs and microservices
  • Experience with data modeling in relational (SQL) and graph (RDF) databases
  • Experience with query languages such as SQL or SPARQL
  • Professional experience in effective documentation and scientific publication
