Job Summary

This role involves supporting cutting-edge research in Bacterial Infection Ecology at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig. The Technical Assistant will be responsible for executing scientific experiments, particularly those involving automated staining techniques combined with microscopy, and working with bacterial pathogens at Biosafety Level 2. Day-to-day tasks include sample preparation, optimizing workflows, and meticulous documentation of results following good scientific practice. Beyond experimental work, the assistant will contribute to laboratory organization, including managing procurement, obtaining quotes, and maintaining microscopes and specialized lab equipment to ensure smooth operations. This position offers the opportunity to join a growing, dynamic team focused on understanding the spatial structure of the microbiota and its impact on health and disease, contributing directly to the fight against infectious diseases. The role requires experience in fluorescence microscopy, molecular biology methods, and microbiology, along with strong organizational skills.

Required Skills

Education

Completed training as a Technical Assistant or comparable education with equivalent skills and experience

Experience

  • Professional experience in fluorescence microscopy and molecular biological methods
  • Professional experience in microbiology including the cultivation of bacteria
  • Knowledge in conducting animal experiments (Tierversuche)
  • Experience in optimizing workflows and detailed documentation
