Job Summary

This Technical Specialist role is situated within the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), focusing on the critical Georadar Technology Project. The core responsibilities involve coordinating and technically supervising Georadar (GPR) measurements used for rock characterization and the exploration of geological repositories. These measurements often take place under challenging conditions, including field deployments, helicopter operations, and underground environments. Day-to-day tasks include optimizing measurement parameters, ensuring rigorous data quality assurance, archiving, and processing data using specialized software. A significant part of the role involves the independent organization, maintenance, calibration, and modification of radar equipment, including the development and construction of specialized directional borehole and tunnel antennas (10 MHz to 2 GHz) and associated High-Frequency (HF) signal conditioning technology. Successful candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Electronics or Communications Technology with extensive experience in HF and analog/digital measurement systems. This permanent position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge geoscientific projects for the German federal government.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Bachelor or equivalent) in Electronics with a focus on High-Frequency Technology (HF), Communications Technology, or comparable fields.

Experience

  • Extensive experience in High-Frequency (HF) technology
  • Extensive experience in analog and digital measurement technology and electronics
  • Professional experience in the development of measurement components
  • Professional experience in Quality Management (QM) (Desirable)
  • Professional experience working for a federal authority or departmental research institution (Desirable)

Additional

  • Physical suitability for geophysical measurement operations under difficult conditions (field and underground/mining suitability). Willingness to travel nationally and internationally for approximately three to five days per month. Driver's License Class B required. Driver's License Class C desirable.
