Job Summary

The Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG), a scientific institute under the Federal Ministry of Transport, is seeking three Scientific Researchers to drive the medium- to long-term development of AI and Big Data capabilities. This role involves close collaboration with external partners, such as the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), over a four-year fixed-term contract. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing and implementing AI solutions for water systems, focusing on three key sub-projects: AI-supported quality assurance of measurement data, object recognition/classification of image data, and the conceptual design and optimization of physically based models. Candidates will also handle time series analysis, clustering/classification, data quality assurance, and the application of Generative AI for scientific communication. The ideal candidate holds a Master's degree in a MINT field (Mathematics, Informatics, Engineering, Natural Sciences, Environmental Sciences) and possesses professional experience or a study focus in AI, Machine Learning, or Data Mining, along with excellent communication skills for knowledge transfer and publication.

Completed scientific university degree (University Diploma/Master) in Informatics, Mathematics, Engineering Sciences, Natural Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or comparable field with a technology focus.

Experience

  • Professional experience or study focus in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or Data Mining
  • Professional experience or study focus in the application and administration of server structures (e.g., HPC)
  • Practical experience in conducting research projects and transferring complex scientific knowledge (desirable)
  • Experience in presenting results at national and international conferences and publishing in research journals (desirable)
