Job Summary

The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) is seeking a highly motivated PhD Student to join the Junior Research Group "Brain Mosaicism and Tumorigenesis." This role focuses on investigating how replication stress and DNA repair pathways influence genomic instability in cancer, particularly osteosarcoma, breast cancer, and leukemia. Day-to-day tasks involve mapping and classifying replication stress-mediated and naturally occurring DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) using advanced sequencing technologies. The candidate will integrate complex multi-omics datasets (DSB maps, replication timing, transcription orientation, R-loop profiles) to identify cancer-specific vulnerabilities and develop hypothesis-driven analyses. This interdisciplinary project offers the opportunity to gain expertise in cutting-edge genome biology, computational analysis, statistical modeling, and translational cancer research, preparing the successful candidate for leadership roles at the interface of molecular biology and data science.
