Job Summary

This role involves providing essential technical support for research focused on the ecology and evolution of mosses at the Senckenberg Institute for Plant Diversity (SIP) in Jena. The Technical Assistant will be responsible for the planning and execution of core molecular biology laboratory tasks, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, and preparing samples for various sequencing technologies (Illumina, PacBio, Sanger). A significant part of the job involves comprehensive laboratory management, such as handling administrative tasks, ordering supplies, ensuring lab safety, and managing experimental data. Furthermore, the assistant will be tasked with instructing and training students and staff in laboratory techniques and assisting with plant cultivation in climate chambers. Candidates must possess vocational training as a Biological Technical Assistant (BTA) and practical experience with molecular biology methods, coupled with strong organizational and reliable working skills. Good English proficiency is required for international communication.
