Job Summary

This role involves supporting the Ecology and Evolution of Mosses working group at the Senckenberg Institute for Plant Diversity (SIP) in Jena. The Technical Assistant will primarily focus on planning and executing molecular biology lab work, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, and preparing samples for various sequencing methods (Illumina, PacBio, Sanger). A significant part of the job involves comprehensive lab management, covering administrative tasks such as ordering, data management, and ensuring lab safety. Furthermore, the assistant will be responsible for recording and evaluating experimental data, creating detailed lab protocols, and training students and staff in essential laboratory techniques. Education

Completed vocational training as a Biological Technical Assistant (BTA) or comparable qualification

Experience

  • Practical experience with molecular biological techniques
  • Professional experience in using IT/computer systems

  • Experience in cultivating plants under controlled conditions (desirable)
  • Knowledge of plant biology (desirable)
