Job Summary

This permanent role as an Electrical Engineer, specializing in Communications and Information Technology, is based at the Federal Office for Inland Traffic Technology (ABVT) in Koblenz. You will be responsible for ensuring the secure, available, and integral operation of critical traffic systems along inland waterways, including fiber optic networks (SDH, MPLS), proprietary radio networks (NIF, AIS, DGNSS), and various information services (NaMIB, EuRIS, SMGT). Day-to-day tasks involve coordinating planning and execution meetings for technical measures, managing comprehensive maintenance, inspection, and repair schedules, and overseeing spare parts logistics. A key function includes conducting procurement processes for technical systems, adhering to public contract law (VgV, UVgO, EVB-IT), and developing resource plans to meet defined quality goals, such as system availability. This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, professional engineering experience, and strong organizational skills, offering a stable career path within a federal authority developing the strategic Traffic Technology 4.0 system.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (FH-Diploma/Bachelor) in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Communications Technology/Information Technology or comparable field.

Experience

  • Professional experience as an engineer
  • Practical experience in maintenance and spare parts management of transmission systems
  • Practical knowledge in network technology configuration
  • Knowledge and practical experience in measurement technology and troubleshooting in transmission and network technology
  • Knowledge in the planning and setup of transmission systems
