Job Summary

The Office for Inland Traffic Technology (ABVT) in Koblenz is seeking a permanent Telecommunications and IT Systems Engineer to manage and operate critical information services for federal waterways. This role focuses on ensuring the secure and highly available operation of sophisticated communication infrastructure, including fiber optic networks (SDH, MPLS) and dedicated radio systems (NIF, AIS, DGNSS). Day-to-day responsibilities include coordinating planning meetings, overseeing maintenance, inspection, and repair activities, and managing hardware and software spare parts. You will also be responsible for procurement processes (UVgO, VgV, EVB-IT), developing resource plans to meet quality objectives, and managing contracts with external service providers. The ideal candidate possesses a degree in Informatics with a focus on Telecommunications/Information Technology and strong practical knowledge in network technology, measurement, and troubleshooting. Success in this role requires strong organizational skills and fluency in German, contributing directly to the 'Traffic Technology 4.0' strategy.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (FH Diploma/Bachelor) in Informatics with a specialization in Telecommunications / Information Technology, or comparable qualification

Experience

  • Professional experience as an Engineer
  • Practical experience in maintenance, change management, and spare parts management of information services and systems
  • Practical knowledge in computer networks and network technology including configuration
  • Practical experience in measurement technology and troubleshooting in computer and network technology
