Job Summary
This leadership role involves strategically and organizationally managing the Special Structures and Hydraulic Engineering department within the Düsseldorf City Drainage Operations. The successful candidate will lead an interdisciplinary team of approximately 29 employees, overseeing complex water management projects crucial for the city's sustainable infrastructure. Day-to-day tasks include strategic planning, budget management, and coordination of all departmental activities, focusing on optimizing, maintaining, and renovating systems. Key responsibilities cover two main areas: Special Structures (new construction and maintenance of stormwater treatment plants, retention basins, and pumping stations, including M&E equipment) and Hydraulic Engineering (dyke construction, watercourse expansion, renaturation, and flood protection). The role requires a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (specializing in Hydraulic Engineering or related fields) and proven professional experience in water management, coupled with strong leadership and project management skills. Required Skills
Education
Master of Engineering or equivalent university diploma (Dipl.-Ing. Uni, TH) in Civil Engineering specializing in Hydraulic Engineering, Urban Water Management, Geotechnical Engineering, or a comparable field
Experience
- Several years of professional experience in hydraulic engineering, civil engineering, or in the planning and implementation of special structures in wastewater management
- Leadership competence and ability
- Experience in personnel management and project management
- Experience in formulating and enforcing complex engineering and construction contracts
- Experience in claims management
