Job Summary

This leadership role involves spearheading the Special Structures and Hydraulic Engineering Department within Düsseldorf's Municipal Drainage Operations, which is responsible for wastewater management, flood protection, and maintaining a 1,500 km sewer network. The Head of Department will provide strategic and organizational leadership to an interdisciplinary team of 29 employees, overseeing complex investment projects and ensuring sustainable water management. Key responsibilities include managing two core areas: Special Structures (new construction and maintenance of retention basins, pumping stations, and associated electromechanical equipment) and Hydraulic Engineering (dyke construction, watercourse expansion, and flood protection measures). The ideal candidate must possess a Master's degree in a relevant engineering field, significant professional experience in water and civil engineering, and proven leadership and project management capabilities, driving technical innovation, including the implementation of BIM methodology.

Required Skills

Education

Master of Science or Engineering in Civil Engineering specializing in Hydraulic Engineering, Urban Water Management, or Geotechnical Engineering, or a comparable field. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in the mentioned fields combined with one year of relevant professional experience and willingness to complete a modular qualification program.

Experience

  • Several years of professional experience in hydraulic engineering, civil engineering, or planning and implementation of special structures in wastewater management
  • Extensive leadership competence and experience in personnel management and project management, or the willingness to develop these competencies
  • Experience in formulating and enforcing complex engineering and construction contracts
  • Experience in change order management

Additional

  • Must be suitable for working at a computer workstation (TIV service agreement compliance). Position is subject to public sector collective bargaining agreement (TVöD) requirements. For entry into salary group EG 12, a minimum of three years of professional experience is required.
