Job Summary

This role involves the comprehensive administration, maintenance, and development of the IT infrastructure for the Data Science in Mechanical Engineering (DSME) Institute at RWTH Aachen University, specifically supporting the ZuseLab—one of Europe's largest computer pools. The administrator will manage bare-metal and hypervisor servers, overseeing the installation, documentation, and administration of both Linux and Windows systems, virtualization, and storage solutions. A key focus is on enhancing IT security, implementing robust backup concepts, and automating routine tasks using scripting. The position encourages innovation, allowing the administrator to evaluate new technologies, implement Proof-of-Concepts, and contribute to the development of internal web tools. The ideal candidate has completed IT training, possesses strong knowledge of Windows client administration, and demonstrates a high degree of initiative, analytical thinking, and a willingness to quickly learn new technologies like Linux and virtualization platforms.
