Job Summary

The DWI – Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials is seeking a Research Associate for AI-powered Image Analysis to join their HairSense project. This role focuses on developing and implementing AI/ML models, specifically Deep Learning and Computer Vision, to analyze image data of keratin fibers for the textile and cosmetics industries. Key responsibilities include data preparation, annotation, model training for structural recognition in biological and textile samples, and building automated pipelines for image analysis and report generation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field, with hands-on experience in ML/DL frameworks and excellent Python programming skills. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a translational project with spin-off potential, working within an interdisciplinary team and potentially engaging in business development activities.

Required Skills

Education

Completed degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Physics, Mathematics, Computational Biology, or comparable fields

Experience

  • Professional experience with Machine Learning / Deep Learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn)
  • Experience with image analysis and computer vision, ideally in the context of biological samples or material science
  • Willingness to learn about sample preparation and image acquisition
