Job Summary

The German Cancer Research Center is seeking a DevOps Engineer to manage its GHGA cloud infrastructure and develop/maintain genomics and health web services. This role involves designing and managing deployments on Kubernetes clusters, developing FastAPI-based microservices with automated Helm chart deployments, and integrating APIs for global biomedical networks. The successful candidate will collaborate with bioinformaticians and international partners, contributing to the secure exchange of genome data and shaping one of Germany's most important scientific data infrastructures. Required Skills

Education

Master's degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or similar background with a focus on bioinformatics or data science (optionally with a PhD); alternatively a Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification with complementary years of relevant experience.

Experience

  • Proven experience in DevOps, cloud infrastructure management, and container orchestration with Kubernetes
  • Professional experience with Linux systems
  • Strong knowledge of IT security certifications and standards
  • Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, especially Helm for managing Kubernetes applications
  • Experience in (meta)data interoperability standards
  • Familiarity with GA4GH standards such as DRS, Beacon, LS AAI, and Crypt4GH
  • Experience or interest in microservices design patterns and domain-driven design
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently

  • Initially limited to 2 years with possibility of prolongation. Proof of immunity against measles required. Must be eligible to work in Germany.
