Job Summary

This role involves the independent design, implementation, and administration of central file server systems, including FC-RAID systems, file server headnodes, and network switches. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the maintenance, development, and operation of the institute's HPC cluster, managing cluster nodes, network, and batch queue systems. Key responsibilities include administering and enhancing the storage infrastructure, implementing backup/restore processes, and optimizing storage and cluster architecture based on scientific requirements. This position requires strong analytical and conceptual skills, practical experience with Linux, storage systems, and HPC environments, as well as excellent communication skills to advise and train scientific users. It offers a challenging and varied role in a modern, international scientific environment.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (e.g., Computer Science, Natural Sciences, Engineering) or comparable qualification

Experience

  • Professional experience in the maintenance and development of complex IT infrastructures, preferably in a scientific environment
  • Practical experience with Storage Systems (IBM Storage Scale, FC Raid, Brocade FC OS, TSM)
  • Practical experience with Network Hardware and Management (Cumulus, Fibre Channel, Network Switches)
  • Practical experience with HPC Environments (Clusternodes, Batch-Queuesystems like Slurm, NVIDIA GPUs)
  • Practical experience with Filesystem Management, Filesets, ACLs, Quotas
  • Practical experience with License Management (e.g., flexlm)
  • Practical experience with Scientific Applications (e.g., RStudio, CryoSPARC)
