Job Summary
This role is for an international PhD student to join the trainLSE EU MSCA-COFUND program at TU Darmstadt, focusing on the fascinating intersection of life sciences and engineering. The successful candidate will work on a project combining microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology and cryogenics to advance cell cryopreservation and tissue engineering. Day-to-day, this involves investigating new approaches to cryopreserving single cells without cryoprotectants and exploring the scale-up to complex tissue models. Key areas of research include developing microstructured 3D scaffolds with specific thermal characteristics and establishing culture conditions for freeze-tolerance. This position offers an international, interdisciplinary research environment with full-time employment and opportunities for research abroad, making it an attractive opportunity for highly motivated individuals passionate about cutting-edge biomedical research.

Education
Excellent Master's degree in life sciences or engineering disciplines
Experience
- Professional experience in microfluidics or microelectromechanical systems
- Some experience in the biomedical field, particularly with cell culture models

- Applicants must not possess a doctoral degree; Master's degree obtained no more than 5 years ago; Not resident in Germany for more than 12 months in the last three years before application deadline (exceptions apply); Proof of English proficiency required.
