Job Summary

This role involves three positions for scientists focusing on microplastic research, specifically on developing technical requirements for sampling and analysis under the new EU Municipal Wastewater Directive. The project aims to investigate microplastic in various environmental matrices, including surface and wastewater in North Rhine-Westphalia. One position is for a Project Lead, responsible for coordinating research, developing new sampling and analysis techniques, planning measurement programs, and fostering scientific exchange. The other two positions are for Research Assistants, who will focus on developing and adapting analytical methods, performing sampling, and conducting analyses. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to environmental protection and develop cutting-edge analytical methods in a dynamic scientific environment.

Required Skills

Education

For Project Lead: Completed university degree (Diplom, Master of Science) in Chemistry or a comparable relevant scientific field. For Research Assistant: Completed university degree (at least Bachelor of Science or FH-Diplom) in Chemistry or a comparable relevant scientific field.

Experience

  • Demonstrated competence in analytical chemistry
  • Professional experience and/or a thesis on instrumental analysis or microplastic research (advantageous)
  • Practical experience with microplastic investigation in the environment (advantageous)
  • Practical experience in environmental analysis (advantageous)
  • Experience with scientific project work (advantageous)

  • The positions are temporary for a maximum duration of 3 years due to project funding. Location: LANUK Herten, Germany. Full-time or part-time possible. The Project Lead role is classified at EG 13 TV-L, and the Research Assistant roles are classified at EG 10-11 TV-L, depending on tasks and experience.
