Job Summary

This role seeks two dedicated Laboratory Assistants in Environmental Microbiology—one for a 36-month fixed-term project (Virubox II) and one for a permanent position—to conduct essential analytical work at the LANUK facility in Duisburg. The primary responsibilities involve investigating environmental samples for microorganisms, viruses, and their associated genes using cultural, molecular biology (including dPCR/qPCR), and microscopic techniques. You will actively contribute to the development, establishment, validation, and standardization of these procedures, while rigorously maintaining documentation within an accredited (DIN EN ISO 17025) S2 microbiological laboratory. A key requirement is a completed vocational training (such as BTA or MTA) and a mandatory minimum of five years of professional experience in these fields. The position requires strong organizational skills, teamwork, and an openness to digitalization, offering meaningful work in environmental protection with flexible working models.

Required Skills

Education

Completed vocational training as a Biological Technical Assistant (BTA), Medical Technical Assistant (MTA), Biological Laboratory Technician, or comparable qualification.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of verifiable professional experience as a Biological Technical Assistant, Medical Technical Assistant, or Biological Laboratory Technician (Mandatory exclusion criterion)
  • Professional experience/knowledge in detecting hygienically relevant waterborne microorganisms (Advantageous)
  • Professional experience/knowledge in antibiotic resistance in microorganisms (Advantageous)
  • Professional experience/knowledge in detecting human pathogenic viruses from clinical or environmental areas (Advantageous)
  • Professional experience/knowledge in method establishment under DIN EN ISO 17025 (Advantageous)
