Job Summary
This is a challenging and permanent position within the State Office for Nature, Environment, and Climate (LANUK) in North Rhine-Westphalia, focusing on the critical area of Hydrometeorology within the Hydrology division. The successful candidate will be responsible for acquiring, establishing, and scientifically supervising research and development projects related to the hydrometeorological measurement network and the large lysimeter facility. Day-to-day tasks involve contributing to the development of automated data management systems, ensuring the future viability of measurement networks, and supporting the flood information service. Key qualifications include a relevant university degree (Master/Diploma) in fields like Hydrometeorology, Hydrogeology, or Environmental Sciences, coupled with strong communication, teamwork, and conceptual thinking skills. This role is ideal for a proactive professional eager to modernize essential state-level environmental monitoring systems and contribute to public safety through improved flood forecasting.
Required Skills
Education
Completed university degree (Master or equivalent Diploma) in Hydrometeorology, Hydrogeology, Meteorology (with focus on Hydrology/Soil), Environmental Sciences, Soil Water Balance, Geography, Geosciences, or another suitable technical-natural science discipline. Consecutive Master's degree or accredited Master's degree from a University of Applied Sciences (with accreditation proof) is accepted.
Experience
- Experience in the acquisition and execution of R&D projects (Beneficial)
- Knowledge in the operation and maintenance of lysimeter facilities, hydrometeorological, and soil measurement networks (Beneficial)
- Professional experience in measurement data acquisition, testing, and processing using relevant hydrological professional software (Beneficial)
Languages
Additional
- Willingness to participate in on-call, night, and weekend duties as part of the flood information service. Willingness to undertake regular, and occasionally multi-day, business trips nationwide.
