Job Summary

The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany's national metrology institute, is seeking a Doctoral Researcher in Physics for a three-year, part-time position in Braunschweig. This role focuses on advancing the 173Yb+ isotope for use in optical clocks, building on successful work with 171Yb+. The successful candidate will automate clock operations, investigate stability improvements using multiple ions, develop protocols for hyperfine transitions, and determine systematic frequency shifts. They will also extend existing Python-based experiment control systems and laser setups, conduct comparative measurements with other optical clocks, and present research findings at international conferences and in scientific journals.
