Job Summary

The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is seeking an accomplished Research Scientist with a doctorate to lead the 'MR Metrology' working group within the Biomedical Magnetic Resonance division in Berlin-Charlottenburg. This pivotal, full-time, and permanent role involves the technical and organizational leadership of a team focused on developing advanced hardware solutions for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), particularly concerning radiofrequency (RF) excitation at low and ultra-high magnetic fields. Key responsibilities include overseeing RF coil construction, developing parallel-transmit consoles, simulating RF fields for patient and implant safety, and advancing open-source low-field MR systems. The successful candidate must possess deep knowledge in MR physics and hardware development, proven publication activity, strong programming skills (Python, Matlab, or C++), and experience in acquiring third-party funding. This position offers the chance to contribute to cutting-edge metrology standards in an internationally recognized research environment, utilizing state-of-the-art facilities including 3T and 7T MRI systems.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or equivalent (Diplom) with a Doctorate (PhD) in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or comparable field.

Experience

  • Experience in operating or building MRI systems, especially at high field strengths (advantageous)
  • Demonstrable independent publication activity in the field of expertise
  • Experience in supervising and mentoring students and doctoral candidates
  • Experience in acquiring third-party funding and coordinating projects
  • Professional experience in technical leadership and organizational management of a working group
