Job Summary

The University of Greifswald is seeking a part-time Research Associate in Environmental Physics to join its 'Environmental Physics' working group. This role involves a unique blend of independent scientific work at an international level and practical technical and organizational experience in setting up and operating automated measurement systems. The successful candidate will primarily focus on passive remote sensing of the middle atmosphere, including the evaluation of satellite-based measurements and the operation of ground-based instruments like infrared cameras, infrared spectrometers, and sun photometers. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research, develop scientific evaluation algorithms, and engage in hardware and software development, while also preparing for a doctoral degree.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree, Diploma, or equivalent in Physics, Meteorology, or Environmental Sciences

Experience

  • Professional experience in continuous monitoring, development, and automation of ground-based measurements
  • Professional experience in developing and advancing scientific evaluation algorithms to international standards
  • Experience in small-scale hardware and electronics development
  • Experience in developing control software
  • Experience in maintaining measurement operations, including calibrations and infrastructure upkeep
  • Experience presenting scientific results in journals and at international conferences
  • Experience in university teaching, including supervising exercises, practicals, and theses
