Job Summary

The University of Greifswald is seeking a dedicated Moorland Manager to play a pivotal role in its climate protection strategy. This position involves developing and implementing a comprehensive strategy for peatland climate protection measures on university-owned moorlands, aligning with the university's overall climate goals. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and executing peatland rewetting projects, including securing funding and managing planning and approval processes. Day-to-day tasks will also include building and maintaining a peatland database and engaging in communication and public relations activities. This role is crucial for significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions from drained peatlands and transitioning to peat-preserving land management practices, contributing directly to the university's environmental sustainability efforts.

Required Skills

Education

Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Biology, Landscape Management, Landscape Ecology, Geoecology, Geography, Nature Conservation, or a comparable ecologically-oriented field; alternatively, a comparable qualification (e.g., Administrative Specialist or Angestelltenlehrgang II) with references in peatland science and management, ecology, nature conservation, or environmental law.

Experience

  • Proven knowledge and skills in peatland science and peatland management
  • Experience in climate and nature protection, environmental and nature conservation law, water and soil law, including associated planning and approval procedures
  • Experience in procurement law
  • Experience in project management
