Job Summary
The GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel is seeking a Biologist to join its Biological Oceanography research unit. This role is integral to a research project investigating the contribution of marine macrophytes, specifically Fucus, to natural climate protection. The successful candidate will focus on analyzing organic carbon production, exudation, and decomposition processes within macrophyte populations. Key responsibilities include conducting experimental work with macrophytes, analyzing dissolved organic substances, performing biological rate measurements, and participating in marine scientific expeditions. Required Skills
Education
Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Biological Oceanography, Marine Botany, Limnology, Environmental Sciences, or a related field
Experience
- Professional experience in carbon sequestration and decomposition by algae
- Experience in experimental work with macrophytes is advantageous
- Knowledge of primary production and exudation of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) is advantageous
- Ability and willingness to participate in marine scientific expeditions

- The position is for a duration of 42 months. The regular weekly working hours correspond to 75% of a full-time position (currently 29.25 hours/week). The position is not divisible, but flexible working time models are generally possible. No work permit or security clearance explicitly mentioned.
