Johann Heinrich von Thünen -Bundesforschungsinstitut für ländl.Räume, Wald u. Fischerei
Job Summary
This role offers a unique opportunity for a Research Scientist specializing in Ecological Genetics to join the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute for Forest Genetics in Großhansdorf, Germany. The successful candidate will contribute to critical research on the state and endangerment of genetic diversity in trees and associated organisms, particularly in the context of climate change adaptation for forests. Day-to-day responsibilities include the conceptual and methodological development and execution of genetic surveys for national and international monitoring programs, specifically within the Federal Forest Inventory (BWI). The position involves leveraging modern genetic, genomic, and bioinformatic approaches, such as eDNA, Metabarcoding, and whole-genome resequencing, to assess human impact on forest ecosystems and derive actionable recommendations. The role also requires developing and applying population genomic analysis methods for gene flow, genetic diversity, and adaptive variation, alongside preparing statements for the Federal Ministry, participating in international committees, securing third-party funding, and publishing research findings. This is an engaging, full-time, permanent position for a highly motivated individual passionate about forest genetics and conservation.
