Job Summary
The Senckenberg – Leibniz Institution for Biodiversity and Earth System Research is seeking a Research Scientist to join their Marine Research department in Wilhelmshaven, Germany. This role focuses on studying temporal dynamics in the biodiversity, traits, and ecology of North Sea infauna and epifauna species and communities. The successful candidate will manage the LTER North Sea Benthos Observatory, conduct annual sampling at sea, and perform taxonomic identification of North Sea species. Key responsibilities also include advanced statistical analysis of long-term benthic data, GIS, and modeling approaches, alongside publishing research in international journals and securing external funding. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research on Anthropocene Biodiversity Loss and Marine Temporal Dynamics within a globally recognized institution.
Required Skills
Education
Doctoral degree in benthic ecology, marine biology, or marine science
Experience
- Expertise in benthic ecology
- Expertise in taxonomy, traits, and ecology of North Sea infauna and epifauna
- Expertise in management and analysis of long-term data or large data sets
- Expertise in statistics, GIS, and modeling
- Experience in acquisition of third-party funded projects and project management
- Experience in guiding students and staff
