Job Summary

This role involves supporting environmental protection efforts by working as a Laboratory Technician for water analysis. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining measurement and sampling stations, including calibration of probes and troubleshooting minor issues. Key daily tasks include year-round, regular outdoor sampling of surface waters and river measurement stations, conducting on-site analysis with handheld devices (e.g., pH, oxygen), and preparing samples for laboratory analysis. The position also requires laboratory activities at external stations, such as cleaning and maintaining nitrate and phosphorus sensors, and managing data entry, validation, and maintenance in databases. This is an engaging opportunity for a flexible, self-reliant individual with technical understanding and organizational skills to contribute to environmental monitoring in Mainz.

Required Skills

Education

Successfully completed vocational training as a Chemical Laboratory Technician, Biological Laboratory Technician, Environmental Protection Technical Assistant, or comparable qualification.

Experience

  • Professional experience in operating technical facilities like measurement stations (advantageous)
  • Professional experience in water chemistry (advantageous)
  • Experience in conducting sampling on flowing waters (advantageous)
  • Practical experience and knowledge in handling mobile and fixed measuring devices (advantageous)

  • Valid Class B driving license (old Class 3) and willingness to drive official vehicles or be driven by a work assistant in accordance with SGB IX. Willingness to perform full-day and year-round outdoor duties, occasionally up to ten working hours. Physical requirements include bending, lifting, carrying loads up to 15 kg, alternating between sitting and standing, and stability on inclines.
