Job Summary

The Leibniz Institute for the Analysis of Biodiversity Change (LIB) is seeking a Scientific Lead for its newly established Center for Biodiversity Data Sciences in Hamburg. This pivotal role involves taking overall responsibility for strategic research and development, contributing to institutional strategies, and coordinating interdisciplinary collaboration across areas like Biodiversity Data Science, digitalization of collections, Citizen Science, and AI development. The successful candidate will drive digital innovation in biodiversity research, focusing on establishing LIB as a global open object and knowledge hub. They will be instrumental in developing and maintaining a 'LIB Knowledge Space' using semantic technologies, designing semantic data models, and implementing solutions for enhanced knowledge discovery and integration of diverse research data. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of digital biodiversity research within a globally networked institution.

Required Skills

Education

Completed scientific university degree (Doctorate/PhD) in Biology or an interdisciplinary field such as Information Science or Bioinformatics with a proven focus on Biology

Experience

  • Proven leadership competence, especially in personnel management and change management
  • Demonstrated excellence in leading and supporting research, including strategic planning and implementation of research projects
  • Experience in acquiring and managing third-party funded projects
  • Professional experience with Semantic Web Technologies, Ontologies, and Knowledge Graphs
  • Professional experience in modeling complex data and processes with a focus on semantic interoperability
  • Professional experience in data-driven modeling of phenotypic data
