Job Summary

The Leibniz Institute for the Analysis of Biodiversity Change (LIB) is seeking a Head of Exhibitions to lead the strategic planning, project management, and execution of permanent and special exhibitions across zoology, mineralogy, geology, and paleontology. This role involves conceptualizing themes, managing budgets, and overseeing a team of six at the Museum der Natur Hamburg. The successful candidate will act as a key liaison for internal and external stakeholders, contributing to the institute's mission of engaging the public with natural history and addressing critical societal discussions around biodiversity loss and climate change. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the public face of a leading research museum and foster a connection with nature.

Required Skills

Education

University degree, preferably in Life Sciences or Social Sciences; Museum traineeship (preferably natural history) and/or further training in project management, or comparable qualification.

Experience

  • Professional experience in exhibition project implementation, coordination, and project leadership
  • Several years of proven leadership experience
  • Practical experience in exhibition development within a museum or similar institution

Additional

  • This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 2 years with the goal of permanent employment. The role is based in Hamburg, Germany. Candidates with severe disabilities will be given preferential consideration if equally qualified.
