Job Summary
The Leibniz Institute for the Analysis of Biodiversity Change (LIB) is seeking a Research Associate to design, implement, and maintain a robust database for genomic and transcriptomic data. This role is crucial for advancing the institute's extensive scientific collections. Day-to-day tasks involve the prototypical development of a sequence database using tools like PostgreSQL, implementing data modeling, and designing necessary APIs. A core responsibility is ensuring data storage and provision adhere strictly to FAIR principles. The associate will also gather user requirements to develop corresponding interfaces, curate and validate complex sequence data, and establish procedures for versioning and updating while considering legal frameworks such as GDPR and the Nagoya Protocol. Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Bioinformatics or Computer Science, possess strong expertise in database development, and demonstrate excellent programming skills, specifically mentioning Python. Education
Master's Degree (or equivalent) in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Life Sciences, or a related discipline
Experience
- Professional experience with genomic and/or transcriptomic sequence data
- Professional experience with structured scientific metadata
- Familiarity with relevant standards and data infrastructures in molecular sequences
- Experience in research data management
- Basic knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR, Nagoya Protocol)

- Limited contract duration of three years. Position is based in Bonn, Germany. Must be able to work full-time (39.83 hours/week) or part-time.
