Job Summary

This role is for an Engineer specializing in Electrical and High-Frequency Technology at the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research in Darmstadt, Germany. The successful candidate will be involved in the operation, maintenance, and renewal of complex high-frequency (HF) amplifier systems, some with up to 2 MW output, used to power particle accelerators. Key responsibilities include managing high-voltage power supplies up to 24 kV, overseeing control and regulation systems, and participating in an on-call rotation. The position also involves the procurement, installation, commissioning, and acceptance of new systems, as well as system integration and documentation. This is an exciting opportunity to work independently within a world-leading international research environment, contributing to the operation of the UNILAC linear accelerator and the development of the new FAIR facility.

Required Skills

Education

University degree (Dipl. (FH) or B.Sc./B.Eng.) in Electrical Engineering / High-Frequency Technology or a related field, or equivalent qualification.

Experience

  • Professional experience in high-frequency technology and related measurement techniques
  • Experience with operation, maintenance, and renewal of HF amplifier systems (up to 2 MW)
  • Experience with high-voltage power supplies (up to 24 kV) and associated control systems
  • Experience in procurement, installation, commissioning, and acceptance of new systems
  • Willingness to be on-call
