Job Summary

This role is for a dedicated Biologist to join the 'Experimental Ecology' research unit at the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, focusing on how coastal ecosystems respond to climate change. The successful candidate will contribute to the collaborative FUBLUC project, which aims to understand the blue carbon potential of Fucus meadows and develop restoration methods for degraded habitats in the Baltic Sea. Day-to-day tasks will involve describing physiological characteristics of thermal tolerance in Fucus juveniles, identifying genomic loci linked to thermal tolerance, and monitoring the resilience of selected Fucus lineages in field experiments. This position offers a unique opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research on marine foundation species, utilizing advanced molecular and bioinformatic techniques, and to pursue a doctoral degree in natural sciences within a leading marine research institution.
