Job Summary

The University Hospital Bonn (UKB) is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join the Institute of Virology and the Institute of Innate Immunity. This 3-year, part-time (65%) position focuses on developing nanobodies as potential therapeutics against orthoflaviviruses, including West Nile Virus. The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary environment to design strategies for delivering nanobodies to the brain, utilizing neutralization assays and blood-brain barrier models. Key requirements include a Master’s degree in life sciences, proficiency in molecular biology and cell culture, and the physical fitness and eligibility to work in a BSL-3 laboratory. This role offers the unique opportunity to contribute to high-impact research within the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF) network, while benefiting from strong mentorship, integration into the Bonn International Graduate School (BIGS), and a collaborative, supportive academic environment at one of Germany’s top-ranked university hospitals.
