Job Summary

As an Instrument Operations Scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research, you will play a pivotal role in the preparation and execution of ground tests and inflight operations for the Photospheric Magnetic field Imager (PMI) on the ESA Vigil mission. Your day-to-day responsibilities involve collaborating with project teams and external partners to command the instrument, define and perform calibration activities, and prepare essential calibration data products. This role is ideal for a scientist or engineer with a background in astrophysics or aerospace, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge international space missions. Required Skills

Education

University degree (PhD, Master or equivalent) in astrophysics, aerospace engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience

  • Professional experience in astrophysics, aerospace engineering, or related scientific disciplines
  • Experience in astrophysical and spectro-polarimetric research
  • Practical knowledge in the operation of space-based scientific instruments
  • Experience with ESA project commissioning or operations phases is considered an advantage
