Job Summary

This Postdoctoral position at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum for Schwerionenforschung offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the LASE-FUSE project, which focuses on advancing laser-driven fusion energy. The successful candidate will play a central role in developing a comprehensive 'Digital Twin' simulation platform for high-energy laser systems. Day-to-day responsibilities include enhancing the OPOSSUM simulation software, integrating complex beam transport models, implementing fusion-specific codes, and validating simulation results through experimental benchmarking. You will also mentor PhD students and collaborate with international research and industry partners. This role is ideal for a researcher with a strong background in laser physics and scientific software development who is eager to work on cutting-edge energy research within a world-class facility. The position provides significant creative freedom to propose new scientific concepts and participate in high-level academic publishing.

Required Skills

Education

PhD in Physics, Laser Physics, Optics, Photonics, or a related field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in scientific software development and integration
  • Professional experience in numerical simulation and high-energy laser technologies
  • Practical experience in optical laboratory systems
  • Experience in mentoring or supervising junior scientists is considered an asset
