Job Summary

This PhD position at the Institute for a Sustainable Hydrogen Economy (IHE) in Jülich offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the structural transformation of the Rhenish mining area into a sustainable energy region. As a PhD candidate, you will focus on the systemic analysis and evaluation of process concepts for chemical hydrogen storage, such as ammonia, methanol, and LOHC. Your day-to-day work will involve developing detailed process models to assess flexibility and integration into energy systems, applying techno-economic (TEA) and life cycle assessment (LCA) methodologies, and publishing your research findings. The role is ideal for individuals passionate about the energy transition and sustainability who wish to conduct high-level scientific research in an interdisciplinary, international environment. Required Skills

Education

Master's degree in Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Physics, or a related field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in process modeling and energy systems analysis
  • Academic background with strong performance in engineering or physics
  • Experience in programming for scientific applications is desirable
  • Experience in techno-economic or ecological assessment methodologies is an advantage
