Job Summary

The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics is seeking a dedicated Materials Testing Engineer to join their Plasma Edge and Wall (E2 M) department in Garching. This role involves the setup, modification, procurement, and operation of thermal analysis systems, including laser flash, thermogravimetric analysis, and high-temperature furnaces. The successful candidate will conduct and evaluate thermal conductivity measurements, oxidation, and outgassing tests, and assist with surface analyses using electron microscopy and X-ray diffractometry. They will also take on responsibilities in occupational safety and radiation protection. This position offers an exciting opportunity for both experienced senior engineers and motivated junior engineers, with comprehensive training provided by experienced mentors, contributing to cutting-edge fusion research aimed at developing a safe and inexhaustible energy source.

Required Skills

Education

Completed engineering degree (Bachelor or Master) in Technical Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering

Experience

  • Professional experience in thermal analysis and microstructure analysis of metallic materials (advantageous)
  • Knowledge of surface diagnostics and electron microscopy (advantageous)
  • Experience in international projects (advantageous)
