Job Summary

Join the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), Germany's national metrology institute, as a Doctoral Candidate in the 'Time and Frequency' department. In this role, you will advance the development of optical clocks using the ¹⁷³Yb⁺ isotope, building upon established research with ¹⁷¹Yb⁺. Your day-to-day work involves automating clock operations, investigating ion entanglement for stability, and expanding Python-based experimental control systems using ARTIQ. You will also manage laser setups, analyze comparison measurements to verify systematic uncertainties, and present your findings at international conferences. This position is ideal for researchers interested in precision metrology and physics beyond the standard model. A unique advantage of this role is the ability to focus entirely on your PhD research without teaching obligations, supported by PTB's world-class infrastructure and an international team of experts in Braunschweig.
