Job Summary

As a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), you will work at the cutting edge of biomedical optics and molecular diagnostics. Your daily responsibilities involve developing reliable, traceable measurement methods for detecting and quantifying pathogens in clinical samples. You will utilize digital PCR (dPCR) and qPCR techniques to quantify gene sequences of pathogens and cancer biomarkers, design specialized TaqMan assays, and perform complex data analysis including measurement uncertainty calculations. This role is highly collaborative, requiring you to work with international metrology institutes and clinical partners to validate reference measurement procedures. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to global measurement standards within a world-leading research environment, focusing on high-impact areas such as HIV and SARS-CoV-2 diagnostics. You will also provide scientific guidance to technical staff and students, ensuring the high quality of research processes in a state-of-the-art laboratory setting.

Required Skills

Education

Completed university degree (Master/Diploma) with a PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a comparable field.

Experience

  • Professional experience in nucleic acid amplification techniques such as digital PCR or qPCR
  • Experience in the extraction and quantification of nucleic acids
  • Demonstrated experience in Assay Design using TaqMan technology
  • Experience in molecular pathogen diagnostics
  • Experience in cancer diagnostics is considered an advantage
  • Experience in scientific guidance of technical employees and students
  • Experience in interdisciplinary cooperation with clinical and international project partners
