Job Summary

As a Technical Associate in the Back-End department of Fraunhofer IISB, you will play a critical role in the production of custom semiconductor components and prototypes. Operating within a state-of-the-art 1000-square-meter cleanroom environment (ISO 4/5), your daily responsibilities include performing essential wafer processing steps such as thinning, grinding, bonding, debonding, and gluing, specifically for silicon and silicon carbide materials. Beyond production, you will be responsible for setting up, maintaining, and repairing specialized technical equipment to ensure process stability and functional safety. You will conduct process control measurements, document results in the manufacturing execution system, and collaborate with quality assurance to optimize manufacturing workflows. This position offers a unique blend of practical technical work and scientific research support, providing a structured onboarding process and the opportunity to take on long-term equipment and process responsibility within a world-leading research organization.

Required Skills

Education

Successfully completed vocational training in Microsystems Technology, Microelectronics, Process Engineering, or a comparable technical qualification.

Experience

  • Professional experience in semiconductor manufacturing or a laboratory environment is preferred
  • Practical experience in operating, setting up, and maintaining technical equipment and machinery
  • Experience in wafer processing techniques such as bonding, grinding, or thinning is highly desirable
  • Proven ability to work independently in a structured and detail-oriented manner within a team setting
