Job Summary
This PhD position at the Institute of Biological Information Processing focuses on investigating the transport mechanisms of vesicular glutamate transporters (VGLUTs) in the mammalian brain. As a doctoral researcher, you will explore how these dual-function proteins combine secondary active glutamate transport with chloride channel function. Your daily work will involve performing cellular electrophysiology using patch-clamp techniques, developing kinetic models of transporter function, and conducting molecular dynamics simulations and free energy calculations. The role is highly interdisciplinary, utilizing machine learning and Markov State Models to understand transporter function at atomic resolution. This position is particularly attractive as it is based at one of Europe's largest research institutions, offering access to state-of-the-art computational and experimental infrastructure, comprehensive doctoral support through the JuDocS program, and a collaborative international environment. You will have the opportunity to present your findings at international conferences and contribute to high-impact research regarding genetic and acquired human diseases.
