Job Summary

The Werner Siemens Chair of Synthetic Biotechnology at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) is seeking a Research Associate for a project focused on the production of microbial oils. The successful candidate will work on isolating, characterizing, and optimizing enzymes and microorganisms to convert biogenic waste into valuable industrial chemicals. Day-to-day responsibilities include cultivating yeasts, analyzing RNA and cell samples using advanced omics methods (specifically transcriptomics and proteomics), and performing bioinformatics data analysis. Additionally, the role involves instrumental analytics such as HPLC and GC, alongside reporting and communication with project partners. This position is ideal for a creative, team-oriented scientist looking to work in a high-tech international environment at one of Europe's leading technical universities. The role is based in Garching and is fixed-term until March 2027, offering a competitive public service salary (TV-L E13).

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or Diploma in a relevant engineering or natural science field, and a completed Doctorate (PhD) in a relevant subject.

Experience

  • Professional experience in the cultivation of oil-forming microorganisms
  • Professional experience in bioinformatics and systems biology analysis
  • Experience in instrumental analytics (HPLC, GC)
