Job Summary

This role involves the technical leadership and management of Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and biosensor infrastructure within the Institute of Materials Science at Kiel University. The successful candidate will independently manage the group's AFM systems, developing and validating novel measurement protocols for research projects focused on bioinspired materials. Day-to-day responsibilities include the strategic planning of equipment upgrades, performing complex experiments using sensor systems like SPR and QCM, and serving as the laboratory safety officer. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys bridging the gap between technical infrastructure management and active scientific research. Required Skills

Education

Master’s degree (M.Sc.) or equivalent in Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related natural science or engineering discipline.

Experience

  • 5+ years of proven expertise in Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM)
  • Several years of professional experience in a scientific research environment with technical responsibilities
  • Extensive experience with sensor-based measurement techniques (SPR, Biacore, QCM) for biosensor applications
  • Professional experience in optimizing bioinspired characterization methods and interpreting complex measurement data
