Job Summary
As a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer for Exteriors in Berlin, you will play a pivotal role in designing the next generation of Tesla's automotive products. Your daily responsibilities involve concept engineering, feasibility studies, and detailed production design using CATIA V5 and 3DX. You will be tasked with delivering high-quality exterior systems that meet strict targets for craftsmanship, weight, and cost while collaborating across interdisciplinary teams. This role requires a high level of technical leadership, as you will mentor junior engineers and support recruitment efforts for the growing team. The position is ideal for an innovative engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, flat-structured environment and wants to see their designs transition from concept to high-volume production. You will work on cutting-edge vehicle architecture, interpreting CAE results and managing complex projects with tight timelines to deliver sustainable energy solutions to the European market.
Required Skills
Education
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability.
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in automotive exterior systems
- Professional experience in full product lifecycle through design, development, release, and launch
- Demonstrated experience in managing difficult projects with tight timing constraints
- Proven track record in designing for both low and high-volume production
- Experience in defining test plans and analyzing experimental data
Languages
Additional
- The role requires proficiency in specific manufacturing methods including injection molding and thermoforming. Candidates must be able to support vehicle development milestones and prototype build events in Berlin.
