Job Summary

As a Senior AI Scientist at BWI, the primary IT partner for the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr), you will drive the digital future of national security within the Tech Center AI & Robotics. This role involves identifying and evaluating civilian and military potentials in AI and robotics through deep technological analysis. On a day-to-day basis, you will evaluate research developments, prototype innovative training and alignment methods for foundation models, and provide high-level technological consulting. You will work with cutting-edge architectures including LLMs, VLMs, and agentic systems. This position is ideal for experts who enjoy working with alpha and beta stage technologies and want to translate complex research into strategic decision-making. Required Skills

Education

Completed degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, or a comparable field of study.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in Data Science or Machine Learning with a focus on modern AI architectures
  • Deep practical experience in training and fine-tuning Foundation Models
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Language (LLM), Multimodal (VLM), and World Model architectures
  • Practical experience with efficiency methods such as LoRA, QLoRA, and Adapter-Tuning
  • Experience with Alignment techniques like RLHF across various model types
  • Proven track record of pre-training models from scratch is a significant advantage
