Job Summary

This unique joint appointment combines a W2 Professorship at the Dresden University of Applied Sciences (HTWD) with a senior leadership role at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR). You will lead the Central Research Technology Department at HZDR, overseeing the strategic and operational development of specialized hardware and software solutions for complex research infrastructures. This includes managing resources, personnel, and cross-departmental coordination to translate scientific questions into technical prototypes. At HTWD, you will contribute 4.5 teaching hours per week in fields such as machine communication, real-time systems, and edge computing, while supervising students and securing third-party research funding. This role is ideal for an expert in electrical engineering or mechatronics who excels at the intersection of academic teaching and high-level technical management within a world-class research environment. The position offers the stability of a permanent contract and the potential for civil servant status in Germany.

Required Skills

Education

University degree and Doctorate (PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field; fulfillment of appointment requirements according to § 59 SächsHSG.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of professional and leadership experience in a research-oriented technical development environment
  • At least 3 years of professional experience outside of the university sector
  • Proven experience in the analysis of complex technical requirements and development of innovative solutions
  • Demonstrated pedagogical aptitude and university-level teaching experience
  • Experience in leading and developing technical departments or large-scale projects
