Job Summary

This PhD position at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) focuses on the experimental investigation of ion-specific effects on bubble-particle attachment and bubble-bubble coalescence in flotation processes. The successful candidate will conduct laboratory experiments using innovative flotation kinetics apparatus and thin-film interferometry to analyze the influence of water chemistry and reagents. Key tasks include utilizing advanced measurement systems like inline endoscopes and optical fiber Doppler probes, interpreting complex datasets, and supporting the development of kinetic and coalescence models. The role requires a strong background in process engineering, chemistry, physics, or materials science, with a keen interest in surface science and interfacial phenomena. This position is unique for its interdisciplinary research environment, the opportunity to contribute to high-impact sustainability research, and a planned three-month research stay in Cape Town, South Africa. It offers a structured doctoral program within a world-class research institution, providing excellent networking and professional development opportunities.
