Job Summary

As the Director of the Office for Roads and Traffic for the Heilbronn District Administration, you will lead a large-scale public infrastructure department comprising approximately 150 employees. Your daily responsibilities involve the strategic management of administrative, operational, and technical divisions, including four road maintenance centers. You will oversee the maintenance and development of roughly 1,000 km of federal, state, and district roads, cycling paths, and engineering structures. A key part of the role involves representing the office in public committees, court proceedings, and negotiations, while driving innovative mobility concepts in line with regional climate goals. This position is ideal for an experienced leader in civil engineering or public administration who wants to shape the future of sustainable mobility in one of Baden-Württemberg's most economically vibrant regions. The role offers high-level civil service status (A 16) or equivalent public sector pay (EG 14 TV-L) with extensive benefits including flexible working and childcare support.

Required Skills

Education

Master's degree or Diploma from a university or accredited university of applied sciences in Civil Engineering or a comparable engineering field; or qualification for the higher technical administrative service (Roads division).

Experience

  • Several years of proven leadership experience in managing large teams and organizational units
  • Multiple years of professional experience within different levels of public administration relevant to the career path
  • Experience in the road construction administration of Baden-Württemberg, including ministerial-level experience, is highly desirable
  • Professional experience in the maintenance, renovation, and construction of roads, cycle paths, and engineering structures
  • Demonstrated experience in budget forecasting and financial steering
